While much to our surprise, Ibssa slept for 12 hours. He laid down yesterday at 6pm for a quick nap
but didn’t want to wake up. We woke him
up a couple times last night to go potty but he went right back to sleep. He finally woke up about 6:30 this morning
and then climbed into bed with us for about ½ an hour.
Ibssa and I kicked
the soccer ball around outside but inside the guesthouse walls. Ibssa is slowly getting used to Max (German
Shepard belonging to guesthouse). The
first day he was here, Ibssa got quite upset when he surprised Max, by kicking
ball over by his doghouse. He was
petting him today but only because Max was lying down and dad was right there
with him.
We decided to go out this morning and purchase some more
pants for Ibssa and I since it was obvious that we would need more pants than
shorts and that’s not how we packed. The
rain doesn’t help either as it just prolongs how long it takes to get laundry
back. Jeans take long enough to dry on
the line but when it rains every day and the sun doesn’t shine much it takes
forever.
Marcos took us out to local vendors which is always
interesting. We decide what we want and
then he gets a price from the vendor and haggles him down. We bought 2 pair of jeans for 680 birr ($34)
when the vendor wanted 900 birr ($45).
It gets quite animated with all the hands flying, the conversing back
and forth, the vendor tossing the items back on shelves, but in the end Marcos
usually wins. He seems to know what they
should go for but when the foreigners are around the vendors always try to get
more. Ibssa still seems to be puzzled when
we go for rides. He has been so used to
being behind walls for 3 ½ years without ever being in a vehicle. He usually just looks out the window with
kind of a blank stare.
We were back by 2pm so Ibssa could get his nap in this
time. While Ibssa was napping the rain
came down again.
Another day in Ethiopia, yes another day of rain. The shower today was the heaviest I have
seen. I think it surpassed the other day
but just like it, the rain was over within an hour. The street outside had a river running down
it. First time we have seen our street
like that.
We woke Ibssa up at 4pm from his nap and we just played
inside. We were trying to get something
on TV for him to watch - there’s only about 10 channels and most of them are
news or Ethiopian programming. Ibssa
just wanted to keep switching the TV / video button so the screen would go
blue. He thought that was quite funny
and then at some point, he would stand in front of it with his arms
crossed. He seems to have a great sense
of humor – he will fit right in with the Gresty’s.
He thought he would test us at supper time. He was playing a game on the tablet just
before supper. When it was time for
supper, he came right to the table, we said grace and then he started
eating. After a short time, he motioned
he was full so he left table and thought he would play on tablet again. Karen told him no, and I told him to come
back and sit at table. Just like magic,
he was hungry again and ate quite a bit more.
After supper, I got him in his pyjamas while Karen cleared
the table. Karen read him a book while I
did up the dishes. Once story time was
done, we tucked in our special little boy and give him a kiss, and told him we
would be here in the morning when he wakes up.
It has been noted many times that you have to constantly remind orphans that
you will be there.
His constant smiles melts our hearts everytime
