The day started at 6:30 and we decided to just hang out here
today, just the three of us. Ibssa got
up and the first thing he thought he was going to eat were the Pringles he see
on the dresser. It doesn’t take long for
him to know what junk food is. Of course
mom said no.
He just seems so comfortable around us know. He always sets the table, one item at a time
while Karen prepares the food. Since the
kitchen is down the hall from the dining room, Dad has to walk back and forth
as Ibssa sets the table. He always wants
one of us with him. It’s funny to watch
him as we say grace at every meal. He
sits there and covers his eyes and if grace is taking too long, he’ll just say
AMEN as a sign to hurry it along. Once
we say amen he’ll say it again.
After breakfast we just stayed indoors as we were having
another downpour. Ibssa played on the
tablet which we downloaded a bunch of educational games for him, thanks to
Amanda, Kate’s best friend. While he was
colouring on the tablet and concentrating intently,
I guess Ibssa is getting comfortable with the idea of always
having food to eat. The first day he was
he just about inhaled a banana but today he decided he didn’t want one at all,
not with breakfast or even a snack.
Karen laid down with Ibssa til he nodded off. He slept for about 1 ½ hours when he woke
up. Karen and I were in the livingroom when
we heard the yelling “Mommy”. Ibssa was
scared because there was no one in the room.
He has always had someone around when he woke up. It made us jump when we heard him but at the
same time we knew that he now trusted us to keep him safe. Instead of just crying, he yelled for the
person that God had given him to look after him the rest of his life.
There was more playing, this time with the TV, alphabet and
number flash cards. A quick play outside
and it was supper time. We decided to go
out for a walk to get Ibssa the traditional food he was used to – Injera. We ordered supper, Injera and a coke for
Ibssa, a steak sandwich and a beer for Karen and just fries and a beer for me
as I was still full from lunch. When
Ibssa’s meal came, it was a huge platter of Injera, sauces and a meaty leg off
something. He loved it and ate
lots. It was funny to see him pickup the
leg and knaw the meat off it. Hard to
believe but the total cost was about $10.
